My work as an artist has always focused on revealing nature's invisible structure and "spirit" — that part of a subject or landscape that is always alive. I have taught art courses with this focus to both adults and children in a variety of settings, worked as a natural science illustrator for medical, technical, and environmental book publishers and collaborated with other artists on public arts projects with a nature focus. This varied background has only enhanced and deepened my fascination with and understanding of the many parallels that exist between "micro" and "macro" worlds. Since 2003, I have offered a multimedia presentation, "Trees of Life", that further illuminates this interrelationship, as seen through the work of visual artists from many different cultures.
For the next few years, I will be focusing on a self-imposed, personal "Ph.D." program, completing a series of forty-eight, large color drawings/paintings, titled "From Seed to Universe". For a preview of completed drawings and more information, see the "Seed to Universe" listing on the Galleries page.
I'm very excited about a another new direction in my art life: I have recehtly gotten involved in the new artists' community, "Mighty Tieton", in the small town of Tieton, Washington. I'll be spending part of my time there, beginning in October of 2007. Marquand Books has already set up a new hand bound book arts studio in town, and plans for printmaking and papermaking studios are in the works as well. Who knows what new work will be coming out of this adventure? Check back in the spring!
In the coming months, I'll be adding more drawings to this site, and the ability to purchase my book as well as prints of various subjects.
